Tour Overview:

Experience the thrill of whale watching as you witness the majestic Southern Right whales that visit the Cape each year to breed and calve. The best time to see them is between August and November, and the famous Whale Route, which passes through Gordon’s Bay, Pringle Bay, and Betty’s Bay, offers incredible coastal scenery on the way to Hermanus, one of the top whale-watching destinations.

Tour Highlights:

1. Fernkloof Nature Reserve & Harold Porter Botanical Gardens
   Begin your tour with a visit to the stunning Fernkloof Nature Reserve, covering 2,000 hectares of mountain and coastal fynbos, home to diverse bird species and small mammals. The Harold Porter Botanical Gardens is a must-see for nature lovers. On weekdays and Saturdays, you'll also get to explore the Hamilton Russell Wine Estate and learn about Hermanus' viticulture. (1 hour)

2. Hermanus
   Known as one of the best whale-watching spots in the world, Hermanus offers breathtaking views of Southern Right whales from the shore. Watch as these gentle giants breach and play in the waves. (1 hour 30 minutes)

3. Whale Watching – The Southern Right Whale
   Learn about the Southern Right whale, named by whalers as the “right” whale to catch centuries ago. Now, with only about 3,000 remaining, these whales are a protected species that visitors can admire from the coast or on optional boat trips. (1 hour 30 minutes)

Whale watching is seasonal, only available from August to November. If you're visiting outside this period, we recommend the Marine Eco Tour, where you can observe dolphins, penguins, sunfish, and occasionally whales, all year round without disturbing them.
